About this Death Cafe
The worldwide Death Cafe movement has found a welcome home on Vancouver's north shore, with its community of individuals who embrace the open enquery offered by such a salon.
As the first two cafes were so well-attended, we will be continuing to offer them every 4-6 weeks.
For this All Souls' day event, we will celebrate the Celtic festival of Samhain, and the Mexican observance of Dia de los Muertos - Day of he Dead - in which the deceased are remembered in a festive and joyful way.
Participants are invited to bring photos or small mementos of those beloveds who have passed away, for our community altar.
Elena Navarro will bake a special Pan de Muertos - traditional Mexican bread of the day - as well as the cake and coffee everyone longs for at Casa Nova!
There will be poetry and music, and as always, conversation in groups of four. Quotations about death will be printed on cards, and placed at each table to stimulate conversation if participants choose. There are usually 12-15 cards at each table, and they may be taken home afterwards.
At the June cafe, we all wrote letters to ourselves outlining what we wanted to complete if we died in 6 months. The letters were placed in self-addressed envelopes, and the hosts will be mailing them to the writers in early December.
Warmly
Analee and Abegael
