About this Death Cafe

When Washington Post Wonk Blog's Ezra Klein opined in one of his weekly columns, "Can we please talk about death like adults?" I decided it was time to move off of the sidelines and take an active role. Death Cafe DC seeks to share ideas, resourses and support to help make normalizing the conversations around death an attainable goal.

As an informal forum, it is meant to be intimate, so we shall break into groups when necessary. We will provide support should anyone find that they need it but our main goal is to facilitate open, honest adult conversations about end-of life issues, death and a life well-lived.

About Alisa Hughley with Clare Palace

Alisa:

For more than a decade, I have worked with health care systems from Maryland to New York assessing community health needs, developing strategic plans and building corporate capacity in outreach and communications. My current focus is assisting companies engage the community and raise health literacy for organ donation and end-of-life (advance) planning. After losing my brother and only sybling to an act of random gun violence, my views towards death were irrevocably altered. As a result, personal experices have helped drive my professional endeavors.

Clare:

I believe we all need to honor the milestones in our lives, and today that can be challenging if you do not belong to a religious community or group. I hope that couples will find that I am the solution to their search for a Wedding Officiant. I am a graduate member of the Celebrant Foundation and Institute and an ordained minister by the Universal Brotherhood Movement. I am able to leagally marry couples in the District of Columbia, Maryland and New York City.
