About this Death Cafe

When I first heard about the Death Cafe movement, I realized it was something I had been waiting for (without even realizing it) all my life. I've always had a curiosity and even fascination about the subject of death and dying, but I've learned not to broach the topic or risk being called a "Debbie Downer" and have the subject abruptly changed. The first Death Cafe I attended was therefore one of the most liberating, healing conversations I've ever had. I couldn't believe how much there was to discuss, and how the mere act of doing so made me feel so connected to total strangers! I am of the firm belief that such conversations should happen on the regular -- and with Death Cafes we can make that happen.

This particular Death Cafe will begin with a few brief remarks and then we'll break into small conversation groups. Discussion topics will be offered but are optional. After about an hour or so, we will convene again as a large group to share the highlights of what we've heard.

About Tiffany Fox

I have one foot in the world of science (as a science/technology writer at UC San Diego) and one foot in the world of spirituality (as a lifelong yoga practitioner, meditator and open-minded agnostic). Last year, at age 38, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and conntemplating my mortality and the mortality of others is an important part of my treatment regimen. Instilling in my two young children a healthy attitude about life and death is my greatest priority, as I have personally seen the value in understanding that the only life we know of is finite, and therefore should be lived with a heart wide open.
