About this Death Cafe

We are part of a network in Medway that all want to break the taboo around grief, death and dying (we’ve cheekily called ourselves the ‘Brown Bread Collective‘ for anyone up to scratch on their Cockney rhyme). Also, both of us are dedicating our future careers to improving conversations around death. Running a Death Cafe is just the perfect place to start opening the door to those conversations. We are also both relatively young, being in our 30s, so we hope to bring a younger voice to the converstations that are so often aimed at older people (not that those are unimportant). We are very dedicated to this becoming a long term project, with the help of our local wholesome Brown Bread Team.

About Candice Penfold and Candy Worf

Candy P has worked with the dying in various roles for much of her career -mostly within nursing homes and in hospitals, and has voluntarily supported Medway communities in her work with various charities for nearly a decade. She is currently studying to become an end of life doula, and wants to start improving the conversations and choices around death and dying in the community.

Candy W has been facilitating conversations around death and dying in her work for the past three years in extra care housing mental health groups and has had a little book published with a chapter on convention around loss and using flower arranging. She is currently studying for an NCFE in End if Life Care.
