About this Death Cafe
We aim to create a comfortable and supportive space for discussing one of life’s most intriguing mysteries and invite you to an open and honest conversation about death and dying.
What to expect:
engaging conversations: explore various perspectives on life, mortality, and death;
connection: meet like-minded individuals who value deep, meaningful and unusual discussions;
open-mindedness: embrace diverse beliefs, philosophies, and cultures;
a cup of tea/coffee and a gluten free chocolate cake!
Who can attend? Everyone is welcome!
Whether you've pondered life's greatest questions or are simply curious, this event is open to all individuals, regardless of age, background, or beliefs. Let's come together to break the taboo surrounding death and gain a deeper appreciation for the beauty of life.

Maria Mariotti
Maria has an eclectic background as an engineer, entrepreneur, nature educator, yoga and mindfulness teacher, event organizer, and proud mother of three.Having experienced the loss of her parents at a young age, Maria views Death as her most profound teacher and companion in life. She firmly believes that by cultivating knowledge about death and dying, we can alleviate fear and be better prepared.Maria loves being in nature and you will often find her hiking in the bush or playing outside with her husband and children.
Claire Hatherell has been a registered nurse for 37 years, 27 of those working for Hospices. Claire moved into a clinical education role 14 years ago and has been teaching a wide range of health professionals, students in tertiary education and of course supporting our Hospice clinical teams with their professional development, ever since.
Her long-held belief is that everyone deserves good palliative care regardless of their care setting. She is passionate about sharing knowledge around death & dying but also learning from others in that process. Palliative Care has taught her to never take life for granted so she loves to get out on her mountain bike, go tramping and she sings second alto for the Hibiscus Coast Singers.
