About this Death Cafe

I have been reading about the death positive movement, which of course Death Cafe is part of, and talking and contemplating about death can influence how we live our life, possibly bring more joy to it. Talking about death makes us aware how precious life is because we realise how short and temporary it is, especially as we age, or if you have lost anyone young. Everything and everyone can become more valuable and we stop taking life for granted.                    Steve Jobs said... ”Almost everything, all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure, these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important”    What an important conversation to have.

About Cheryl Opie

I am in my wisdom years, have been married for 51 years to the same man! Amazing eh? I have 2 beautiful daughters and 5 divine grandchildren, all of which are now taller than me....and I haven't started shrinking yet.

I have been facilitating a creative, healing painting process for the past 18 years. This incorporates meditation which I have been teaching for 30 years. it is a soulful process and we discuss everything to do with life and naturally that includes death and what maybe happens next.  If you are interested in knowing about this process, www.paintingfromwithin.net

Now I have become a marriage and civil celebrant. I made the decision to become a celebrant because I have lost several people who were close to me and was unimpressed with the celebrants who conducted the funerals. So talking about death and running a Death Cafe seemed like a natural place to go. I enjoy bring people in the community together, it breaks down boundaries when we all have one thing in common....we are all going to die.
